a living room is starting to take shape. my dad gave me this beautiful, wooden sofa table and it still needs to be sanded down and refinished, but i wanted to bring it in for my little party on saturday. same goes for the butterfly chairs (although in finnish we call them 'bat chair', lepakkotuoli...), they're rusty and peeling, and need covers sewn. remembered my sewing machine but forgot all about the paraphernalia, bigger needles and thicker threads and such. well, i'm going to the fabric store tomorrow anyway. hoping to find what i'll be looking for... the seats will not be black this time!

i was not too sure about the fireplaces (there's a smaller one on the other side of the wall) when we first met, but my eye is getting accustomed to the faux brique on real brick. i really like the uneven, drawn quality of the paint job, actually. sadly, they are fitted with an electrical heater inside, the doors don't even open, so no woodpiles in this home unless i venture further into faking it... i'm already kind of planning a decorative mantle and fireplace facade for the winter holidays. for now, tea lights will have to do.

the rats got spooked by something, very likely a ghost because i couldn't figure it out, this morning and haven't come out of the cage at all. they barely ate breakfast. it can't have helped that i vacuumed and cleaned all day and brought strange things in. poor babies. i picked them sprouting wild greens from the forest home and they loved dandelion and forget-me-not, just like basu did. sysi didn't take to yarrow but savu scarfed that down too. i was so pleased because they can be picky eaters but from foraged veggies they will get so many health benefits.

tomorrow is going to be all about baking and preparations, so i think i can have a quiet and lazy evening now. guess i can't help doing a bit of last-minute party planning still...
