i have had new shoes now for a few days. proper winter boots, as in water-proof (sigh). they cost a pretty penny despite being on sale, but once i finally put them on (i ordered online) it was love. no regrets. i smile every time i see them. i may be materialistic but there is nothing shallow about it. these are deep feelings.

yesterday, however, my new loves began to show their true nature and started biting into my heels. at first i thought the problem was my too thin socks (the shoes are so warm i don't need layers of woollies in them) but today the problem persisted even though i stuffed a whole lot of woolly sock inside. i solved it like i often do, by beating with a hammer. the part where the vulcanized rubber joins the nylon fabric was stiff and kind of pointing inwards, but no more. they seemed better, but i'll know for sure after a longer walk.

slightly regretting the current B&W photo project, because the combination of black, white and gray with my burgundy cords and herringbone coat is just bliss. in the last picture i am whipping snow off my coat with a mitten — matching my trousers, of course.

it was snowing today, quiet little flakes, but i am ready for everything the spring will bring! i fear no puddle, nor streets of slush...

(the booties are made by sorel, and they're called 'winter carnival', in pewter.)
