i had an unusually refreshing walk today. i got completely rained and thundered upon. and on the one day that i left home without unplugging everything, too... it's been a long time coming, that storm. i didn't mind getting soaked, on the contrary i was bummed to have to hurry home to pull the plugs.
the butterfly (nymphalis antiopa) is called the veil of sorrow. it's considered a bad omen if it's the first butterfly to be seen in the spring, and a harbinger of death when it comes into one's yard. they are especially fond of rotting apples in the fall. some years they are scarce and others plentiful. it's my favourite butterfly with its deep, dark shades of brown and blue lined with creamy white.
speaking of omens, i'm all mystified by how things come by lately. one day i rescued a moth from a mall doorway and took it outside to a tree. i went to the library to see if i could find out what kind of moth it was, because it was quite big and had peculiar colouring. on my way, i spotted a book with animal motifs, including old japanese butterfly illustrations with big, almost cartoon-like eyes. the same day this was posted on sri threads. i didn't solve the moth mystery but i read about wasps eating rotting meat... and what do you know, instant proof emerged in real life!
i don't know if dead birds on your path are significant, but on another day - and i don't use the elevator all that much, only when i'm exhausted and the lift is on the first floor already (oddly enough it always is when needed) - there was a green acorn inside. i wonder if there is any way it could mean that i must get a new camera with a better zoom...
