there are intruders in the house again, this time it's voles. to their credit i must say that the are much less arrogant, all in all quieter and more discreet than mice, but unfortunately they are pests as well, and could carry a virus that causes kidney bleeding, so i'm not exactly over the moon about them, either. this morning i woke to one in my knitting basket. it ran away, then peeked from behind a corner and listened while i went on and on about manners, the perks of outdoor life, and blue oats on the horizon, until it got bored and very theatrically tip-toed across the doorway, to which my only response was: "i can totally see you, you know!" the vole hid under a small rug for a while before skedaddling towards the kitchen. i dove back under the covers.

after a few poor nights' sleep i was in no mood to get up, ever. ate chocolate for breakfast, in bed, with a fuck-all attitude, then journaled a bit about giving up on trying and just living my life sick, weak, poor and alone. then i got up, drank a glass of water with ten drops of whale food, went out and shoveled the driveway.

let me make this clear. i shoveled ten inches of snow, first thing in the day, after not really eating dinner all weekend and some dark chocolate and about a teaspoonful of plankton for breakfast. i did not die, had no heart palpitations aside from the healthy kind of increased rate and did not feel fainty. i haven't done any snow work all winter, due to heart problems and being feeble. afterwards i lay in bed again, stretching and doing some yoga moves, feeling what must be the 'bliss after exercise' i've heard about, thinking: "this is odd."

phytoplankton, i think you're starting to have an effect on me.

i did not clear out the entire yard, because at some point in the middle of all the snow flying, a realization arose that i might have just overdone it a bit, and perhaps not be able to climb out of bed tomorrow at all. there is definitely more stretching on my schedule tonight. i'll know i picked that shovel up, come the days ahead, for sure. my tailbone with its old injury had some complaints, so i took homeopathic arnica just to be on the safe side. but i kind of get it now, why people go to the gym to sweat it. my head feels so clear. this is a different tiredness altogether. i feel like i could still go back out and finish the job, only i know better.
