as i was climbing the cliffs of howth on one of the most scenic paths there are, i naturally focused on the snails. they were everywhere. the one on the lower right corner is my favourite, its body colour was an exact match to the ocean, complemented beautifully by the maroon shell. but the one next to it wins the prettiest shell category, the lines look like they've been painted on! i would have snailnapped them and smuggled them home, had i brought a suitable jar (i forgot).
i also spotted the hairiest plant i've ever seen...
among all the small things i noticed, a tough little rose grew facing the winds on the ocean side, just about to open its buds. i took a cutting, but it's not looking too perky at the moment. i still have hope, though. it looks a lot like our 'midsummer rose' which i adore. i so want to pair it with this howth heroine. if my cutting doesn't take root, i'll just have to go back again to get a new one. simple as that.
this tiny succulent looked too petite to take from, but it would have been nice in a terrarium, and probably quite hard to kill, considering where it managed to live on the bare rock.
this fantastic trash can is one of the first things you see when arriving at howth. it instantly made me long for days of old, and wonder what the place had been like before, since it's been a tourist spot forever.
this was my last night in ireland, so i had to buy some snacks for the flight back home. these blueberries were a great choice, but they kind of made me feel very small as well:
