we had a killer heat wave for almost a week. when it was 27°C in the shade, in the morning, i lost interest in knowing the temperature for the rest of the day... wasps have been busy building nests on the porch with the door left open, and i've been busy burning incense and trying to chase them away in a calm, pleasant manner. i feel sorry for having to rip off the papery domes with eggs already in the little chambers, but they are so damn fast at it, and they really don't make for very nice neighbours.

now the temps have cheerily plummeted over twenty degrees so it's rather chilly. i put a paper hat over lavender and wrapped gauze on top of the raised bed, there could be halla tonight. anything in pots i have indoors.

this spider keeps thinking it's a good idea to build its web inside the rainwater barrel. it really isn't.

can you believe these fluffy little aliens? they will soon become redwings (turdus iliacus) but right now i don't really know what to call them. the nest is on a windowsill, in the open, so they'll have a tough time growing up, poor things.
