20 April 2016
so here we are, in the new home. it's beautifully wonky and worn, cosy but soo roomy, and has lovely morning and evening light. still much to be done, especially in the scrubbing department... i'm taking things slow and easy though. lately it has been difficult to enjoy homemaking, after learning the sad news of the untimely death of a former lover. we had not stayed in touch but it hit me hard and forced me to revisit some conflicting emotions. also, suddenly, having moved next to a cemetery wasn't all that tranquil and serene... but i'm choosing the best memories to cherish and trying to turn the rest into valuable lessons, gifts even. mostly i'm focusing on the here and now, and although i'm still sad, i feel better, too.
moving is a crisis in itself but this time i've got the added challenge of also unpacking from a previous move, boxes from 2011 like strange time capsules from a different life altogether. some things i have missed, some are strangers, some are hard to face again. letting go has never been my forte, but it has to happen now. there's a lot of red in my past, which i'm just not feeling any longer. i'm in a more white and blue place in my life (not in an overly nationalistic way, mind..) and i just want to feel settled after so many years of temporary arrangements, so i'm actually looking forward to clearing out clutter. it's still not easy and takes energy i don't always have, but for once simplicity feels possible.
sysi and savu are enjoying their bigger cage and rooms to roam. when they arrived, sysi promptly ran thru the place to check everything out whereas cautious savu took a few days to reach the farther regions. once i get a sewing station set up, their lodgings are getting filled with nests and tunnels. i already bought a cheap fleece blanket (less € and nicer colour than fabric by the metre!) but dropped it somewhere... traced my tracks back but it was gone. a couple days later they were on sale, two for a fiver, so i got two. managed to carry both all the way home, too. i've always had the icks over fleece fabric but for rats it's ideal, easy to wash and dries fast.
spring is taking its sweet time to arrive. some early flowers are blooming and tiny wild greens have made their way onto my plate already. chives had also sprung the last time i visited my garden, but it's bitterly cold and gloomy most days. up north they had snow and it was a possibility here, too, this morning. but it's just gray. as much as i love a good, gloomy day, if it's all there ever is...
here's to what i'm hoping is a new start to my blog, most likely lots of homey things will be posted, and in time more creative things as well. hope you are warm and well, wherever you are!
