my heart kind of skipped a beat when i saw that little blossom just now. skimmia is a common enough seasonal plant in finland, but i have never seen it in bloom. they are sold as potted houseplants in bud, but i've only ever witnessed them wither away. here they thrive in the gardens, i didn't even know it becomes such a huge shrub.
also in the arrangement are two apple prunings and a cutting from someone's hedge, no idea what the plant is but i like the cranberry-like foliage a lot, and it compliments the skimmia perfectly.
(just moments before, i was thinking about how i'm not, as such, a girly-girl... oops! i'll have to own up to girly, but never frilly. skimmias are quite sleek and minimal. and sort of dark despite their pinkness.)
time is flying by, i've only a week left in this house now. aka home. i should start thinking about packing.
