i have been on the lookout for an apartment for years, just a rental, but it's not been so easy with pets and meagre funds and special needs for beauty and quiet. good things seem to really come to those who wait, because i found us -- sysi, savu and myself -- the most wonderful home in town. it's in a white, wooden house built in 1951, in a quiet neighbourhood, and the old cemetery is right across the street. the landlord had forbidden both pets and children, but somehow rats were okay, which i thought was hilarious but that i kept to myself, because what a strike of luck!
so, on april fool's day of all dates, we will start moving. start, because for once i get to do it in bits and finally have a chance of sorting through my belongings in a manageable way. i'm super duper excited about getting a proper workspace after a decade without. it's also a little terrifying, since i've got ten years' worth of pending project ideas... the thought of my own kitchen is elating as well, i've missed my pots and pans...

the rats have grown in leaps and bounds, both are over half a kilo by now. sysi has gotten downright fat, his body type puts him at risk of obesity, but he is still growing so i don't want to put him on a strict diet just yet. diving, or rather dipping for peas continues to be their favourite hobby. neither is a lap rat, but sysi loves to be massaged once he has initiated it himself. savu is too busy for cuddles, but will allow petting when tired enough. he's also the kissy one. they are about to get a bigger cage, too, and hopefully a climbing tree of sorts in the new home.
spring is still a ways away here, we got more snow yesterday but there's a saying about new snow slaying the old... it should be getting warmer in the coming days. i will still be visiting the garden and going to the woods as much as i can, but it does make me a bit sad to miss out on the daily little changes towards the next season. i'm really hoping this year will make some more sense than 2015, weather-wise. and otherwise.
