marimekko muija pattern by maija isola
another thing i'm obsessing over lately is this fabric. i have a nagging feeling my mother offered me a piece of it not too long ago and i declined. only i'm not sure if it's just my imagination. i have to ask her. in any case, now i want some so much, probably only because i know it's out there... well, really because i've seen such lovely things made of it, baby dresses and quilts and whatnot. and it seems so fresh all of a sudden. and also because they don't make proper cotton like that anymore, soft and strong.
pictured above is my lidded tin. for me, the embodiment of a coffee tin. i drank coffee from when i was three to about ten. this is where the grounds were kept, and we had a dark brown scoop for measuring in there as well. i can replay the sound of opening the lid and the way the scent feels in my head. i can't actually smell it while imagining, but i know exactly how the coffee smells like. very odd, come to think of it. nowadays i keep sugar in there. coffee is in one of the red ones, and probably quite stale. bought for someone who never returned, long ago.
so now i'm just aching to score some muija. and it kills me that what i just said is totally lost in translation. nevermind, probably for the better.
i'm also craving this mushroom fabric something awful! and this kitchen towel is already on its way home... item by item i'm staging a better world. that's what i do. define the quality of life visually.
