sometimes i do wonder about the mushrooms that grow out there...
the big news is that i harvested my first radishes, not just this season, but pretty much ever. for reasons and conditions unknown, these did not bolt but produced delicious roots, and i have more coming in, hopefully in other colours as well. 'black spanish', my earliest sowing, is in bloom of course, but i've learned it's a fall variety. who knew? i'll save the seed and try it a year from now...
last weekend i went to helsinki to go to flow festival. it was a pleasant surprise, even though i was alone for the most part, the crowds did not overwhelm me too much and i saw some great gigs. i almost didn't go, even though i had bought the ticket early on, but in the end i'm so glad i did. i liked aino venna a lot, her voice almost makes me tear up. woods were a kind of amalgam of a few bands i really love like the shins and sonic youth with a bit of greenhornes in there somewhere. the main attraction were nick cave and the bad seeds, of course. it had been nine years since i saw them live the last time. they were intense. they were good.
while i was away, gooseberries ripened to perfection, oregano mint filled its pot and my sword lilies were eaten by deer.
