it's so warm and summery now, and with my dad not having been here in ages, the lawnmower has also not been dragged out of the shed and the garden is lush and jungle-like. i like that, to a point. i do the weeding by hand, here and there. i don't like it when the yard is trimmed all flat on one go.
yesterday i tried to go to town to do some shopping but even though i left home an hour early by mistake, i managed to miss the bus, because the timetables had changed. before i realized that, i decided, after waiting in vain at the bus stop before that first lightbulb moment, to walk down the road for the hour... in humid heat and without any breakfast in me. i got a little dizzy at one point and stayed at that stop even though i had time left to walk for at least ten minutes. then i waited and waited some more, before checking the timetables with my phone. bless you, smartphone!
then, of course, i had to walk back home again, only having eaten a few spruce shoots at the bus stop... thank goodness i had a bottle of water in my backpack. and a good pair of boots on, despite the hot weather. the silver lining was that i walked six and a half kilometres, i've been kind of lazy about going for a walk lately. it wasn't too bad, i even explored a side road i'd never ventured down before, and found beautiful, weathered and greyed pallets deserted in the bushes. i have to find a way to go and get them.
the compost boat is now full of sowed seeds and little, growing plants. a fungus has also emerged, i'm so hoping it will be something delicious...
i've already harvested a few radishes and salad leaves, but mostly it's still wild greens that i'm eating. and chocolate. today i bought some dark chocolate with sea salt and that stuff will be the death of me. at first i thought, great, i don't need to eat a lot of this because it caters to both cravings, salty and sweet. yeah right.
i was a regular bag lady today, starting at the craft store i shopped my way through the fleamarket to the super one. great finds in reduced prices encouraged me to buy a couple of magazines in addition, as well as pricey seeds for colourful carrots. i didn't get everything on one go, groceries-wise. i think i'll do another trip tomorrow, if i can wake up early enough. i don't like the bus schedule now, i can either go to town for a quick popping in, or stay for six hours. but at least i can go.
the first midsummer rose opened. so here we are, summertime! there are more buds than i've seen in years, which is good because i want to use a lot of flowers in various projects. they smell of heaven, i swear.
