finally it's my turn to post pink blossoms on a tree! it's been such a lovely, warm day, just what i needed after a day spent in bed, shivering with stomach ache. i took a long awaited walk up to james fort and dock cove. and wouldn't you know it, it was all just lovely...
first i stopped to soak the sun in down at world's end, by the riverbank. the tide wasn't that low yet so i only had a wee bit of gravel to sit on, but it was all i needed. the flower is a little weed that grows on the stone walls everywhere, i don't know the name of it.
then, in dock cove beach, i took repose on the cliff amongst the roly-polies and ants, and the sweet smell of little gorse blossoms just above my head. i have no idea how long i was there. the same people i remember from my last visit were there again, the regulars, i suppose. it's a nice beach all right, i just wish the water was warmer...
up at james fort, i lost all concept of time laying down in the plantain-covered field, listening to the birds and the sounds of boats, and farm animals from across the bay. it felt very healing and grounding. i saw a hare goddess up in the clouds. a few people passed by, different characters, my favourite was the old irish gentleman dressed in grey.
i had a little picnic all by myself, really really loved the smoked cheese and radishes combo, rice cakes weren't so crispy anymore, no big surprise in this damp ol' island. i picked some sorrell and lady's smock (pictured above) for garnish and some other flowers for pressing. eventually it began to drizzle and i started down the hill, but sat under some monterey cypresses to keep the rain for a bit, looking over kinsale, thinking about past things, trying to sort out my mind, remembering someone who stays in my heart even though he does not belong there.
on the walk home the weather cleared again, and since the tide was low, i searched for treasures on the widened riverbank. found none. at home, i made sea beet soup with parsnips and mung beans, but boiled it for too long and the beet leaves turned a bit bitter. way to give a first impression of my cooking skills to my new housemates... it is so odd to be back home with a new 'family' living here. but i'm happy.
