06 January 2015

oh, how i would have wanted to start off 2015 all fresh with pictures of shimmering trees and a feeling of excitement, but on new year's day the snow melted away, and both my mood and health plummeted. the rat is also falling ill and sprouting tumors, so a countdown of sorts is on for him now. both of us are taking propolis and turmeric on top of the usual medicinal mushrooms, broccoli and what have you. i had one of the worst migraines of my life on sunday night. and there is more rain on the forecast, even though today was crisply below zero. so, not entirely sold on this new year yet.

got a new camera, an ixus 150, and it feels so plastic and toy-like after using the trusty ixus 50 for nine years. somehow i'm not expecting the new one to last as long... it does take better pictures under poor light, but feels more complicated to use, the menus are so different from what i'm used to. i'm especially miffed that i can't just push one button to switch to macro like before, since that's kind of what i do mostly. maybe i will get more into zooming at faraway things next... that's the one thing my fifty was rubbish at. hopefully learning to use the camera will make me a more active blogger again, with something new to show.

the little forest stream was already posted as an instagram video, but of course i also tested my new toy on it, basically just on the auto setting to get a feel of what it can do. i was drawn especially to the treetops reflecting star-like on the bubbles, complementing the pattern of the moss. they didn't come out quite as sharp as i would've liked, but it was very dim out there and the bubbles were moving fast. not too bad.

2015 is a great mystery to me, all i know is it will be a year of significant change and i will have to brace myself. i'm really only asking for energy. i want to do so much.
