10 April 2012

this morning/noon i made a cherry quark for breakfast, using a jar of jam given to me a long time ago. it was dated 2006. perfectly fine, too, but it got me thinking about my habit of saving things 'for the rainy day' as it were. it also got me thinking about other things but that is a post of its own probably. in the fridge i could find an unopened lemon curd jar, best before 2008, a bonne maman chestnut paste i'm plowing thru, also past its prime, and the remains of a suspicious organic peanut butter ("no preservatives") i bought from whole foods in ann arbor around x-mas 2007, but you couldn't tell. it looks and smells absolutely normal but i'm hesitant to taste it, due to fear of toxic peanut molds. apparently i can't get rid of it because there's cute monkeys on the label. and it isn't fluffy yet. i kinda wanna see how it keeps.

it's not just food i'm hoarding though. there's a birthday present i ordered for myself a few years back, still in its unopened box, from ann woods. i know what it is, but i still kept it, first for x-mas, then some other day i might feel like opening a present, forgotten at times, surfacing every now and then. if i keep it unwrapped long enough, i suppose it'll become valuable, and what then?

there's also a perfume oil making kit i'm gonna start on when the time is right. just like every other thing that i want to do when everything else is perfect. it's a real handicap. i just can't function in an unfavourable setting. but i think i'll start on the perfume soon, i keep thinking about it every day...

spring is inching forward, it's almost 10°C even though the sun isn't shining today. the wind is borderline stormy but i guess that's the warm air moving in. i spotted a butterfly already, and these past days i've been enjoying the sun with some reptilian company while clearing a flowerbed by the side of the house. they have beautiful eyes, the lizards. i am so fond of them, and i can't wait for this year's babies!
