the pineaway

hands down (or up!) one of my favourite fungi, calocera viscosa, looks like little yellow flames dancing on the forest floor. they always light a bit of joy in my heart when they come up. it never occurred to me that they could be eaten, and to my utter delight i recently found out they can! now, they are tasteless and chewy, but i just could not resist sneaking a few along into a jar of pickled milk caps... the small mushrooms are cute enough on their own, but talk about adding whimsy...  and i don't even like vinegar pickles that much at all. that jar just makes me feel like life is a miyasaki movie, somehow.
