(i can't be the only one who looks at roses and sees creepy eyes staring back...)
my copy of ku:nel arrived in the mail the other day. (the cat on the cover looks like she's about to pee in the sink...) i ordered it from uguisu, one of the loveliest shops online. every parcel has been like a gift, even though i've purchased the stuff myself. also, postage from japan is fair and delivery startlingly quick. i bought other things as well, including masking tape... i swear it's the last roll!
it was expensive for a magazine but not at all too much for an attractive workbook. i've only just begun learning japanese a bit so i can't really read it, but i was happy to find some easy recipes i (think i) can translate... it helps that a lot is english written in kana. i enjoy spelling out the words and figuring out the meanings, especially the transliterations. my native tongue is finnish but english comes as a close second, i think and even dream in english quite often. japanese has many similarities with finnish, yet i study it in english... it gets confusing if i think about it too much so i just let my mind work any way it can. it's good to be able to benefit from both.
in the magazine, there's an eggplant and blueberry salad that intrigues me, and i can't wait to try the meron to aamondo no zuppa or momo no rizotto... melon and almond soup and peach risotto, respectively. i'll have to skip the shiroi wain in the recipe but i don't mind a bit of bataa... easy as pie! or so i hope...
i wanted the issue for all the plants in it, and looking at the pictures does make me want to study that much harder to one day understand the text. and be able to get the most out of my stay when i go... whenever that is... everything is so lush and lovely and japanese. except the paris kitchen of course. which is to die for. i also just realized there are roses in the issue so my photo is not completely random after all.
