1. i'm using rings from old bra straps as markers. (always knew i was saving them for a purpose!) also using a code to keep track of things while my mind wanders: on the reverse side, ie. 'night' side, the first ring is black (it's always darkest before the dawn) and on the 'day' side where the increases are made, the first ring is white. other colours are placed symmetrically, and the markers in the middle are red to alert me, since i'm most prone to forgetting increases after the long stretch of the back section.

2. i had a rocky start. apparently kfb does not mean 'knit from behind'...

3. haven't yet knitted 55 rows. this means i started and finished 5 repeats.

4. here's how far i got yesterday. i'm not a super fast knitter and also kept pulling back after failing to make increases where marked. almost done with the yoke part...

any ideas on colour combinations to make this plummy cardigan appear more spring-appropriate? pale blue and pink are not an option! nor is yellow. i was thinking white and rusty orange to allude to crocuses, but i'm not a fan of orange either, nor crocuses in particular... most likely i'll end up packing a lot of berry hues (dark blue, wine, dusty purple) for my travel wardrobe, since i don't seem to own much else.

i wish i could make a dress out of this fabric. i wonder if any still exists.

we had even more snow, i actually had to pick up the shovel today. took more food out for the birds and the crested tit got insanely happy. no one has told that bird it's supposed to be a timid creature. three more swans flew by, yesterday i saw seven, reminded me of an old folk tale... a lone raven also hurried past, right over my head, very quiet, just as i was putting my mittens on in the midst of trying to catch one on video! usually i can hear them from miles away. i waited for its mate. nothing. then i realized: wifey must have laid eggs! that's why the bugger was so silent and fast, trying to return to the nest unnoticed.

seems like the sun is about to start shining again.
